June 2022

The June edition of The Hedge is out, in which we look at the past month’s numbers and some of the stories that have caught our eye from around the alternatives world. We include guest pieces from Isaac Souede, Chairman and Chief Global Strategist at SCP Investments (and former Chairman at Permal), looking at the macro storms we are in the midst of, and Luke Waddington, CEO at Blue Fire AI, who ponders whether risk should sit in the front or back office.

Last month was a sea of red across all hedge strategies, although it remained a broadly thematic macro world, which is clear from YTD performances. We saw funds closing, funds outperforming, investor flows to multi-strategy and interesting activist activities. We also saw plenty of crypto activities, at a time when the sector is under pressure, and we take a look at some of Alan Howard’s interests in this space.  We pick-up BlackRock’s ESG positioning, the travails of DWS and offer a few thoughts from our side.

As always, we have the excellent Matt Raver from RQC providing a regulatory overview.

Firms covered include A16z, Amundi, AQR, Barclays, BlackRock, BNY Mellon, Brevan Howard, Bridgewater, Coinshares, Coremont Digital, DWS, EIA, Elliott Management, Elwood Technologies, Farallon Capital Management, Goldman Sachs, Graham Capital, HedgeMark, Innocap, Jane Street, Key Square, Lyxor Asset Management, Melvin Capital, Nomura, Odey, Pantera Capital, SkyBridge, SoftBank, Systematica, Tiger Global Management Toshiba, Unilever, Volkswagen, WebN and Wells Fargo.
