November 2022

The October edition of The Hedge is out, in which we go beyond our usual news and updates with a left field move into other types of alternative investments, namely art and classic cars.

For this, we are incredibly lucky to have convinced two leading experts to give us their take on these markets, namely Francis Outred, former Chairman and Head of Post War & Contemporary Art, Europe, Middle East, Russia and India at Christie's, and Gregor Fisken, a global authority in classic cars, having owned, raced and sold some of the most famous cars in the world, and runs London based Fiskens Fine Historic Automobiles.

There is also plenty of going on in alternatives this month, with strong numbers from the hedge fund sector and some decent recent fund raising in private equity as they look to invest more thematically.

The hedge fund sector continues to see outflows, but with investors searching for diversification, and some good performances this year, is this likely to change anytime soon?

We are seeing new funds being launched and particularly delighted to see Divya Nettimi become the first woman to launch a $1bn fund and there will be more to follow (Mala Gaonkar?).

Odey Asset Management closed funds to new money due to the lack of opportunities after returning 193% in the European fund, while Millennium is locking investors in for longer.

Elliott Investment Management L.P. is increasingly active in Sweden. Until the FTX debacle/ liquidity crisis, crypto seems to be back on the agenda.

And in regulation, the FCA’s recent consultation paper on sustainability disclosures and investment labels is hugely important given the requirements on managers and distributors.

Once again it is great to partner up with the Money Maze Podcast.
